Fashion Show

It was on our second year that we hosted a fashion show in the REC auditorium that changed the entire concept of fashion show that REC had till that day. I had this idea of fashion show from my first year onwards. On this day many new models were raised. Nagashree, Anna kuruvilla, Sunil Ramachandran(who was already a model among girls), Pooja, Rajeev krishnan ofcourse and many more. It was great to see all these beautiful girls and handsome guys on ramp.

More than this what I would remember is the whole support of our seniors, especially Phalgoos. More was the support of our juniors. Hey Zooshtray and gang without you guys it wouldn't have been possible. I would not forgot others in our batch too. But to be honest I always take it for granted that these people will be there for sure. How can Moota, Nafsu and and Naushi cannot help us on anything we go for :). Believe me there was a lot, A LOT of effort behind this blockbuster show.

I think not many knows that this show was asked to be stopped on just the night before the event, as we didn't get the permission to move the "platforms" in the class room. And I would say it was Sibi mathew sir who stood with us and got the permission from the authorities. Then it was the juniors who with all there enthusiasm moved the platform to make the ramp. Not only that the same enthu was there to move the platform back to class too.

The rehearsals was fun too. Thanks to Anna to teaching all the girls cat walking.
Tanks to Sunil for supporting the guys. Hey Rajeev your idea of bell bottom jeans was superb.

Hey how many of you know that the same team won 2nd prize for fashion show in TKM on their inter collegiate festival. Also Pooja Menon won the beauty of the year on the same event.

It was very pleasant, happy and proud to see people congratulating Sunil, Rajeev, Murali and others on the night at MC.

Hey guys I should admit you guys were superb on ramp.....

MC- our own mini canteen

MC- the two letters that brings a lot of memories to the male community of REC.
Who can forget the single attached and double attached and the chikkis. The late night visits to MC at 2pm after so many rounds of 28.
Some among us collecting 25 paise each for buying a cigarette. Making the juniors treat us while we are at MC. Also the posters of different clubs at MC.
Gossips and truths, fights and compromises, tension and reliefs, loneliness or celebrations, laughs and cries MC was always part of everything.

So guys MC coming.....

The Great Escape

There are many fond memories of REC that comes to mind. But probably not too many that can be associated with the first few months in 'A' hostel - thanks to the near-prison-like enviroment that was in the offing. There was only a single window to the outside world (barring the one facing 'B' hostel which some of the seniors used to subject us to ragging assignments) which was guarded by the "mashe"s as if their life depended on it. Any amount of cajoling would not make them budge and allow so much leeway as to even let us sit on the benches right outside the gate. So, most of our adventures were confined to the indoors.

This remained the norm till we discovered the third "window of oportunity" in the form of a ventilator in a certain room number 109, ground floor. Free spirits can be kept bounded only for so long. Subhash Chandra Bose's name comes to mind and the way he had fooled the British who kept him under house arrest to make good his escape. A certain gang of notorious NEXI youths thought in similar lines and creativity soon led their attention to the ventilator that had mere glass panes loosely fitted obliquely to let air pass in. What the designers of the premises must have carelessly omitted was the possibility of carefully removing those glass panes and providing with a sleek exit point for under-fed first year inmates.

This is what precisely happened at around 2 in the night of Saraswati pooja early in the year 1996. I shall refrain from disclosing the names of the participants of the heist for fear of late rebuke, but make a special note of the feeling of accomplishment they must have had when they made their re-entry after an ecstatic stroll in the Chattamangalam wilderness unrecognized by guards and seniors alike.

When we became seniors

There are 3 things that is there in my memory for our 2nd year in REC. One is the freedom. Freedom to move around the campus even after 7pm. Freedom to choose our room and room mates.

The next big thing I remember is the fight with Phalgoos. Again Gooch's (Rajeev Krishnan) famous dialog - "Namalil oruthanne pattiye thallum polle thalli", ha ha ha.

Then came the compromise talks.
When I think of it now it was all fun, because I was just a spectator :).

The third is the elections. :(

First mass movement

Hey guys do you remember that night when we united against our seniors, against ragging.

Many joined that group(almost all mallus). Many supported us.
I don't remember the exact date but that was the first biggest movement I came across in my life.

Still some of the pictures are well defined in my mind. Some of those are. Jins and Kutty talking together to achieve a common goal. Vinod G addressing the crowd(as usual)

And the best part is Sajith standing on the "washing rock" near the bathrooms to declare the name of the Group as "Crusaders". All this reminded me of the movie Gandhi (seriously).

One more thing, the name Sajith declared was suggested by Nafsal around one month before this event.

Its only history that this group turned out to be the greatest football team REC Calicut has ever seen and the person who named the team became the Captain of the team.

Countdown

C'mon guys let's make this a proper countdown to the final meet.Let's all come up with the events we can remember.

Mass Bunk

Hey you remember the MASS BUNK of first year.
The first tensioned decision in REC.
What all rumors were there?
Compsci-waalo we were 100% perfect on this. Everybody participated in this mass movement.
I remember Gooch making a hell out of a noice in our common room.ha ha ha.
